Second edition’s dates confirmed!

First edition’s summary

Last year’s edition of the New Europe Film Festival was a big success. Around 800 people came to the Filmhouse to watch and discuss the Polish, Czech, Estonian, Romanian and Hungarian films. We were also very pleased that the audience was so varied, with representatives of the local citizens of Edinburgh as well as emigrants from Eastern and Central Europe. We hope that the festival helped to promote Eastern European culture in the UK and showed that the New Europe has a cultural heritage and potential that could impress the Old Europe. Many thanks to our partners from the Polish Cultural Institute, Czech Centre, Estonian Embassy, Hungarian Cultural Institute and Romanian Cultural Institute in London and Czech Airlines.

Next year we would like to show more Eastern and Central European films in 2008, also in Glasgow and London, if possible. The planning of the second edition is already on the way and we’re in touch with the representatives of the other new EU member states, who are willing to take part in the festival next year. Something to look forward to...

California Dreaming opens the 2nd edition of NEFF

Artificial Eye’s latest release has it’s pre-premiere as the opening title of the 2008 New Europe Film Festival. Romantic comedy with a bitter aftertaste from C. Nemescu, who died tragically in a car crash before finishing the film. When a NATO transport is detained at a rural Romanian train station the locals indulge in a pro-western craze. Remember, you saw it here first!
